IELTS Essay Questions (02)

Topic: Successful athletes can earn far more money than those in other major professions. Some believe it is completely justifiable, while others believe it is unjust. Distinguish between the two points of view and express your own viewpoint.

Sports pros in my nation have become superstars and stars as a result of continual media attention, and those at the top are paid enormous sums of money. They live luxurious lives, with large homes and cars, just like Hollywood stars.

Many individuals believe their compensation is excessive, especially when compared to that of top surgeons, research scientists, or even top politicians who are in charge of the country's governance. Sports pay, on the other hand, are not based on the position he or she occupies. Rather, they are a reflection of the popular support that successful celebrities may inspire. So it isn't a question of 'fairness.'

Those who believe that sports stars' pay are justified may argue that there are a limited number of professionals with true talent, and that the money is a reward for the talents and devotion required to succeed. Every time a player performs during their relatively short career, they are put to the test. The media puts a lot of pressure on you, and you don't have much privacy when you're not in the public eye. As a result of all of these circumstances, the large earnings may be justified.

Personally, I believe that the sums of money earned by such athletes are more justifiable than the enormous sums earned by movie stars, but it also demonstrates that our society places a higher value on sports than on more important professions and accomplishments.
